Whether you run a maintenance department for a lawn service or you work in an industry where your facility handles the grounds for a business, healthcare facility, educational center, or hospitality industry – knowing how to keep the grass green and the plants vibrant is just part of what you do.

Ask industry professionals which is better between liquid or granular fertilizer and you may get a variety of answers so here are a few pros and cons to each one.

Liquid Fertilizer

Liquid fertilizer is convenient in a number of ways – for one thing, it's typically easier to apply and works fast because it is adsorbed easier and faster. However, it does have its drawbacks. With liquid fertilizer there is always the chance of using too much and this can cause burning and yellowing of your plants and grass.

Granular Fertilizer

Granular fertilizer gives you the ability to control the application easier and this gives you a better way of ensuring you don't over-fertilize. However, granular fertilizer usually requires a higher initial investment and is much more time consuming.

Options

There is the option of slow release and quick release in both formats – liquid and granular – and which one you choose is dependent upon the individual needs and preference at your own maintenance facility.  Some people love granular fertilizer and some would rather use the liquid because it makes things easier to handle. As long as either choice is applied correctly then your grounds should be just fine but there is more to it than just choosing a particular type of fertilizer.

No matter which type you choose, it is important that you implement a preventative maintenance plan. For instance, if you plan to go with the granular fertilizer then you will need a program that allows you to set specific times that you plan to fertilize the property you manage. With Preventative Maintenance Software from Maintenance Care, it is much easier to “set it and forget it.” What this means is that you set up the initial times and dates you need a task done, such as fertilization and lawn care, and then the tasks are automatically assigned when that dates comes up. This makes it easier to be sure that everything is done when it should be and your facility does not get behind or jeopardize the integrity of your grounds.
