Preventative

You probably already realize that there is a value in doing regular maintenance, but you may not yet see the core value. Here are a few reasons why you should do preventative maintenance and how it helps in the short term and the long term.

Equipment Lasts Longer

When it comes to your facility’s assets, you want your equipment to work as long as possible. To replace a large piece of equipment costs thousands of dollars and may have been just fine to work for many more years if it was cared for properly. You wouldn’t drive your car without changing the oil, so why do it to your equipment.

Improves Workplace Environment

Ask anyone and they will complain that their workplace is too hot or too cold and unfortunately, whoever else is with you is likely to believe the opposite. The example of the too hot and too cold employee is just a way of showing you that complaints make life miserable but by keeping everything running at its optimum, you at least minimize some of the complaints that you would normally have.

Reduce Costs

Reduces costs by having fewer breakdowns. Imagine fewer service calls on equipment and less downtime due to equipment failure. Not to mention that a preventative maintenance plan allows you to catch problems and nip them in the bud instead of waiting until the problem is more serious and costs are higher to fix it.

Easier Workday

By having a preventative maintenance plan in place, you have fewer emergency calls which makes your workday easier. Emergencies are bound to happen even with a PM plan in place but you will find that it is more rare of an occurrence by taking care of things in advance.

A preventative maintenance plan just makes good sense all around. You catch problems faster, your workplace environment is improved, costs are reduced, and equipment lasts longer. It’s a win/win situation for the entire company.
