At a town in Europe, a storm recently caused cancellations to Electricity North West's scheduled preventative maintenance tasks and instead, the focus was now on emergency repairs. While this happened thousands of miles away, it can happen anywhere in the world.
“Electricity North West has canceled a number of planned network maintenance jobs to focus on repairing damage caused by Storm Clodagh. Engineers have restored power to more than 10,000 homes across the region since yesterday afternoon and have been out again from first light to continue restoring the 500 remaining properties. The severe weather, which followed a Met Office yellow weather warning for wind in the region, caused a number of faults in Cumbria, Lancashire and the Peak District. Engineers have now successfully restored power to more than 10,000 homes as the total number of properties affected rose throughout the evening and this morning. All but 500 properties – spread across the region – are now back on supply and engineers are continuing to work through the day in very difficult conditions.”
Emergency Preparedness Planning
Preventative maintenance is always integral to running any maintenance department. It creates an atmosphere of a well-kept shop or facility and it is necessary to making sure things run properly. However, accidents and emergencies happen that take away from regular proactive maintenance.
Being Organized Minimizes Delay
Being organized helps in these situations and while you can't prepare every single time, you can make it easier on yourself with a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Software) program from Maintenance Care. This program allows you to schedule preventative maintenance well in advance, instead of scheduling it daily or weekly. When emergencies do happen, you are already ahead of the game.
