When you think of a maintenance department, digital signage is probably not the first thing you think of. However, whether you work for a resort, hotel, motel, healthcare center, hospital, or college – digital signage is something that is probably part of your job description, so here are a few tips on how to make the most of everything to do with placement, content, size, and more.
Digital Sign Placement
One of the first things to consider is the viewing time and distance. Now obviously if the sign is up before you took over the handling of it, there is not much you can do about that but if it is a newly erected sign you will want to take in the consideration of your viewing audience. A general rule of thumb is that a one inch character letter is viewable by about 50 feet away. So, the further away from eye-traffic your sign, the larger your characters need to be. And speaking of traffic, you will want to keep in mind that actual traffic going by will make your letters harder to read so larger is better.
Graphics vs Text Only
It is no secret that graphics are eye-catching, however sometimes text is your only option which is fine as well. If you do choose to have graphics on your signage, keep in mind that to show basic graphics in a way that can be seen adequately, you’ll need your LED display to be at least 16-32 pixels tall. You also want to change the messages and not try to show everything at once. People are more interested if they have to actually wait for something they have seen that caught their eye rather than cramming it all into a big jumbled mess of information that is confusing to the eye.
Retrofitting an Existing Sign
If there is an existing static sign, most signage companies will retrofit a similar size in a digital format so you do not have to start over from scratch.
