If there is one thing that most people worry about when it comes to business – it's money. No matter what kind of business it is, people want to know that their money is utilized effectively and that their capital is in the black.
When it comes to running a maintenance department, there are a few simple ways to cut costs that help make your budget stretch further.
Energy Efficiency
There is a reason that going green is popular and while we'd like to all think it is to make a more sustainable planet, there are other reasons too and one of those is saving money. Whether it's making sure the AC or heat is lowered or raised accordingly or switching to LED lights – these are all things that help you be a greener facility while saving money at the same time – it's a win/win situation.
Use Technology
Obviously, we are biased because we know how useful CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Software) really is to your facility. Some people don't embrace technology and that's a shame because there are plenty of ways that technology makes it easier to do your job and don't we all want to make life a little easier? Technology doesn't just mean social networking or using Google, either. We also mean things like automated lighting or even automating the entire building. Even the little changes eventually add up to big changes that are helpful and cost-saving.
DO Sweat the Little Things
Sure, there's a popular saying that goes, “Don't sweat the small stuff.” But when it comes to saving money, the small things really add up. Make sure the AC filters are changed, make sure that lights are turned off when people leave, make sure refrigeration units are kept at the proper temperature, check windows for leaks, and make sure office computers are turned off or at least are using their most energy efficient mode when people are away.
