Preventative

Let's face it, not everyone likes to paint walls or trim but unless you keep up with the painting at your maintenance facility, everything starts to look rundown.

Update: Here's the way we look at the role of painting in Maintenance in 2021.

Walls with scuff marks, faded or peeling paint, or simply old paint, looks aged and certainly won't make a customer want to stop in based on the aesthetics of your hospitality business and more guests means more money.

If you're a maintenance manager for a business in the hospitality industry, then you know how important a fresh coat of paint is to make things look current and fresh. One of the most important aspects to keeping up with the painting at your business is to be proactive and utilize preventative maintenance software. Of course, when it comes to painting, there are few things to keep in mind:

Temperature

If you're painting outside then you need to keep the temperature in mind. If it is, lower than 50 Fahrenheit or 10 degrees Celsius, choose paint that is low-temperature paint which works in temperatures from under 35 Fahrenheit or 2 degrees Celsius.

Texture

The more glossy the paint, the easier it is to clean. Obviously, you have to go with what the room or wall calls for and what is appropriate but glossier paint is much easier to wipe down making it more ideal for interior walls that become scuffed or dirty.

Primer and Paint

Not everyone agrees that paint with primer in it is better than average paint but if you want to try to save some time, choose a paint and primer combination. It may be just what you need to save a few extra steps on painting. You may only have to use one coat depending on how aged your walls are and how much is soaked in from the first coat.

Storage

If you have paint left over, be sure to store it carefully and off of concrete flooring. The cans will keep from rusting faster by placing them on a shelf instead of the floor. Put a swatch of the color on top and make sure it is taped down so it can be easily seen and identified.
