Whether your facility has been the victim of gang tagging or simply someone's idea of “art” with scrawled words, it must be cleaned up. Graffiti not only makes the entire area look less idea for customers or guests but it encourages others to vandalize the area as well. Customers and guests may see graffiti and think that you are in an unsavory area with criminal activity - whether this is actually true or not. You may have simply been a victim of a kid showing off to his friends but others will not see it that way so fast removal is important in keeping your customers feeling safe and secure at your business.

There are a few ways to ensure that the graffiti is removed safely and fast. There are a couple of ways that the markings can be removed; physically or with chemicals.

Physically

Physically, you would have your employee out there with a scrub brush, a pressure washer, or a sand blaster. This way may be more physically demanding but no chemicals are used and it is the “green” and least expensive way to remove the vandalism unless you have to rent the equipment used. However, this way of removing graffiti can be harsh to the area and can damage paint or other coverings.

Chemicals

By using chemicals to clean up the mess, you theoretically have less physical labor to do but it is imperative to make sure to read all instructions and warnings with each product. It is also important to know which type of chemical works for what you need and find one that won't damage your surface.

If you have been the victim of this type of vandalism more than once, there are coatings you can choose that make the graffiti less apt to “stick” to the surface and makes cleanup much easier. There are many types of these coatings to make sure you know about each one. For instance, some only work once and those are called sacrificial coatings. Some may work for a few applications and some work to only help keep the paint from sticking.
