Preventative

It's no secret that while having carpet in healthcare centers helps in more ways than one, that it also is an area that takes the most wear and tear. There are many ways to ensure that the carpet in your healthcare center has the most longevity possible.

Here are just a few of the benefits of a carpeted healthcare center:

  • Fewer falls and slips

  • Less noise pollution

  • A more welcoming atmosphere – less antiseptic and sterile looking

Preventative maintenance on carpeted floors keeps them looking nicer longer and maintains the integrity of the look and functionality. Foot traffic brings in a good portion of the soil into a facility – in fact, up to almost 94% of it. This soil acts as an abrasive, wearing out the carpet and lessening the life of it. There is preventative maintenance software that can help.

Sweeping and Vacuuming

Vacuuming and sweeping is integral to keeping the carpet free of abrasive sand, soil, and debris. The carpet should be vacuumed or swept as often as needed but at least every other day – more often if there is heavy accumulation from sand or snow.

Welcome Mats

Welcome mats do more than just welcome foot traffic. These mats also collect some of the soil and debris that would otherwise be tracked onto the carpet.

Walkways and Entries

Cleaning the walkway and entryway before the carpeted area is a good way of eliminating some of the problem before it even gets near the carpet. Sweeping or blowing away the sand and dirt will keep some of it, even quite a bit of it, away from the carpeted area so you have less to clean up or vacuum.

Carpet Cleaning

Obviously, the carpet needs to be cleaned as often as necessary. Some facilities need to do it more often than others but you'll know by how it looks. A professional carpet cleaner may be the choice you make or if you have a carpet cleaner on-hand, you can have one of your maintenance crew members do it for you. This is usually done when there is less traffic such as after closing time for nursing homes or facilities, or late at night in a hospital.
