When it comes to working in the hospitality industry, the guests are your main concern as a Maintenance Manager. While you can't please everyone, there are a few things that not only can make the guests happier but can help your maintenance crew have an easier workload.
Here are a few ways you can make changes that are simple yet effective and helpful:
Have you ever stayed at a hotel or motel and weren't able to get the right channels simply because the television wasn't set up right? This is just a minor thing but it is important to check it each time so that your maintenance workers do not have to make a special trip just to do something that should have already been done.
Make sure that the information on how to call the front desk, any weather or conditions information is easy to read, and any information on the telephone usage. While most people have a cell phone these days, but you might be surprised at how many people do not, especially those of a certain age. Sometimes this is a housekeeping job but many places will call maintenance to replace it, especially if housekeeping is gone for the day or the front desk area is closed and maintenance is the only person to call.
Another issue that is easy to fix is a lighted switch by the doorway that is wired to the lamps, etc. It is very annoying for guests to come into a room and have to find the lights. A lighted switch makes it even easier to find and it is much safer as well.
Make sure clock radios are set to the right time and if there are wall clocks, it is easier if you have one that does not run on batteries that need changing and if these have automatic updates – even better. How many times have you been in a motel where the clock radio was blinking 12 AM? It's such an easy fix and makes the rooms look more professional and caring of what their guests think.

You can't get your work done as easily if you're having to run around and fix a television or replace placards, if that falls under your job description. A CMMS system will ensure that you always have everything scheduled easily and combined with keeping up with the little things – your job will run much more smoothly.
