What to Consider in CMMS Implementation

Once you have made the steps to moving to a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Software) program, there are a few things to consider to make the transition as seamless as possible.

We realize that you want a return on your investment (ROI) and that it fits in well with your facility and organization. There are three factors that everything rests on: Budget, resources, and time. Here are some factors to keep in mind for the CMMS program you have chosen:

Existing Data

Your existing data is either what you have now in an existing program or what you have in either in spreadsheets or paper format.  If you do have existing data, in electronic form, it can be moved into your new CMMS program and can be scrubbed or cleaned from your old way of doing things so that it moves over to the new program with the format needed.

Time Spent

Time is always a factor when it comes to implementing any type of new product so you should expect that there will be some delays when factoring in the change over to a new way of doing things. For instance, a smaller company can realistically expect the transition to be shorter than a larger more complex organization. However, once the new system is set up and good to go, you can now expect that your overall time saved will show an increase in value to time ratio.

Your Users and Their Skills

Sure, you can easily implement the new program, but you need to also keep in mind the skill set of your team. How tech-savvy are they, and who is going to embrace change or fight it? None of the the potential negatives should stop you from implementing a CMMSprogram.  However, you do need to be aware of any potential obstacles you may encounter.

All of these factors are just a sample of what to keep in the forefront of your mind and implementation plan, but should not be a deterrent on making the switch as long as you have the information and plan in place that you will need to roll with any obstacles.
