While it may have been a long, cold winter where you are at, warmer weather will be around before you know it and there are a few spring projects that you can prepare for now so that you have everything ready.spring-1210194_1280.jpg

These are larger projects but there is no time like the present to start to plan ahead if you plan to consider something that will save you money in the long run.

Parking Lot(s), Sidewalks, and Walkways

It is crucial to make sure that your parking lot(s), sidewalks, and walkways are kept in the best shape possible. Not only is it expensive to replace these areas, it is also a safety hazard if they are not kept up to code. Consider planning things like seal coating and striping and don’t forget regular sweeping to free up any debris that can clog drains and look unsightly. Make sure to fix potholes and be aware of any cracks in your sidewalks or areas that can be a trip hazard.

Create a New Landscape Plan

Having a nice landscape is often more than just a pretty view for guests. Without proper landscaping, you can open the door for the potential of pests, drainage issues, and more. If it is time to update your landscaping, before the spring arrives is the perfect time to get your plan ready. Whether you contract it out or plan to do it within your maintenance department – the sooner you get started, the more time you have to prepare exactly what you need and fit it into your budget.

Fixture and Light Bulb Updates

Whether you choose LED updates or plan to replace your lighting with fluorescent, replacing or updating your fixtures and light bulbs allows you to take advantage of not only energy efficiency but the latest technology as well. These replacements mean that you have a smaller carbon footprint, you save money, and you have lighting that is pleasant and give excellent visibility. A plan like this can be done all at once or even in smaller increments so the initial cost isn’t so high.

No matter which project you choose or even if it is a different spring project, the devil is in the details which is why it is important to plan ahead. Once you are ready to proceed, CMMS helps you designate the work tasks easily and efficiently.  Spring will be here before you know it, and with it a fresh round of preventive maintenance. While following through on checklists is critical to saving energy dollars, extending the life of equipment and saving on repair costs (more thoughts on that later), high-quality preventative maintenance is part of any maintenance department mindset that insists on excellence in four different areas.
