Preventative

When it comes to making sure that your equipment is always up to par, as a maintenance manager, you simply cannot do what is called RTF, or running to fail. What this means is that planning and scheduled preventative maintenance is key in making sure that your investment is always kept in top condition so that you have many years of use out of your equipment.

Regular Checks

Using your equipment until it fails is never a good idea for a number of reasons. For one thing, there is the issue with downtime that could have been avoided. Planned downtime to perform maintenance is much easier to deal with than unexpected downtime that comes after a piece of equipment has failed and puts everyone in a bind.

Plan Ahead

Another reason this is not a good idea is that you cannot plan ahead for when it is time to buy new equipment and replace what you already have. If you wait till it breaks, sometimes the budget doesn't allow for a new piece of equipment and that can cause even more downtime.

Ensure Safety

Scheduled equipment maintenance is one of the most productive ways to make certain that your equipment is not only kept in good working order but that all of its parts are safe for employees. Preventative maintenance means that everything is checked over on a regular basis and this keeps the equipment performing like a well-oiled machine, so to speak.

Schedule in Advance

With a maintenance scheduling software you are able to schedule these preventative maintenance tasks well in advance so that they are not forgotten or pushed to the side. These tasks can be set up months in advance and when it is time for the maintenance to be done, the employee gets the task sent to them automatically. Once these tasks are set up, you don't even have to do anything to them unless you want to change a day of the week, time, date, or type of job that is being done.
