Just this past June, numerous violations were found at Southwest Airlines by the FAA after an inspection. There were over $300K in fines imposed after finding two serious maintenance violations present.

According to the story posted in the Star-Telegram and written by Paul Moseley:

“The FAA alleges that after the event, Southwest mechanics failed to complete a mandatory inspection to check whether the change in cabin pressure damaged the aircraft and to ensure used oxygen bottles were replaced,” the agency said in a statement.”

While you may not handle the lives of airline passengers, any safety issues in your facility may cause you to be fined, as unsafe equipment and areas could cause injury or in some cases, death to your employees or guests.

Advance Scheduling

One way to ensure that maintenance is done on time and as often as it should be done is by having a schedule in place where it is automatically delegated. However, doing that manually is difficult and time consuming. This is where CMMS comes in handy. CMMS stands for Computerized Maintenance Management Software and what it allows you to do is to enter tasks and preventative maintenance jobs and have them sent to the employee automatically. You can even schedule everything in advance so that you don't have to worry about it which means even if you're not at the shop because you're on vacation or taking time off, the work is still scheduled and done on time.

Mobility

Not only does this make it easier on your workload but allows you the freedom to do things remotely which means you don't have to be tied down to your desk every minute of the day. Best of all, the employee gets the task via the app so they don't even have to be in front of you or come back to the office in order to get their jobs for the day. This also saves time and hassle when taking care of preventative maintenance and regular work orders and you won't have to find an employee handy either.

Maintenance violations can happen from time to time but they don't have to be based on preventative maintenance being forgotten or not done on time when you have a CMMS program to help you get your job done faster and more efficiently.
