Whether you work in Canada and have to follow the protocol set by the Centre for Occupational Health and Safety or you live in the United States and have to abide by the rules set forth by OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration), there are rules that are meant to keep the work site safer, healthier, and overall a better place to work.

Rules and regulations aren't always popular but they exist for a reason and here are a few ways to make the Occupational Safety and Health Administration or the Centre for Occupational Health and Safety more like your friend instead of your enemy.

Safety is at the Forefront

The main reason these two entities were formed was to create a safe place for people to do their job and safety helps everyone, not just the employee. These rules set forth by both authorities give you clear guidlines for organizing your facility in a safe and legal manner.

Fines and Faults

If there is an issue at your facility and you do get fined, it is easy to look at it as a negative thing. Sure, you have to pay out money that could be used elsewhere, however, that fine may just be the start to making your facility a safer and more productive place.

Save Money

While being fined is no fun for anyone, it is better than having an accident that could lead to your business getting sued and on the hook for hospital bills, or worst case scenario – death benefits. If you are fined, use it to your advantage. Take care of the issue that caused the fine in the first place and take a good hard look at your facility to eliminate any future causes of legislative concern.
