If there is one component that helps ensure that you can give good, quality service then it's the supplies that you use and the availability of them. You may have the best employees around and without the tools you need, a lot of the work, if not all of it, cannot get done on time.
Stop and think to yourself, “Are you really taking care of your suppliers and making sure they are there when you need them?” Here are a few ways to help create a cohesive relationship with the company or person who supplies your maintenance department.
Communication
One of the most important parts of any business is good communication between sectors. Whether it is an open dialogue with your employees or making sure you have a good rapport with your suppliers – make sure that you have a clear and concise communication with everyone involved, especially the suppliers. Without it, orders may be wrong and that hurts everyone, including your ability to do business on time.
Pay the Bills
Just like you like to get paid on time, so does your suppliers. Everyone hits hard times at some point but if you do not pay your bills on time then the company or person who supplies you with what you need may put a halt to any other deliveries until the bill is taken care of. Some places allow you to keep a monthly tab but just like you, they need that income so always budget for the goods from your suppliers and vendors so that you don't get behind and cause a problem later one.
Make Them Aware
In business, things change all of the time. It is a good idea to let your supplier know if there is going to be a major change in how you order things. Whether it is a sharp decrease or a high demand on a certain product, if you know in advance – make sure that they also know in advance. This will help ensure that they are able to accommodate you when needed.
